Reverend Matthew Tate holds a Master of Divinity from Wesley Theological Seminary and a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre from York College of Pennsylvania. He is a firm believer in the call of the Gospel to be transformed by the grace of God that God may use us to transform the world. Prior to coming to Hollywood in 2020, Pastor Matthew served as the pastor of Emmanuel UMC (Huntingtown) and assistant pastor at Solomons UMC.

Pastor Matthew was born and raised in St. Mary’s County, graduating from Chopticon High School. It brings him great joy to have come back to serve in the place that formed him.  In his spare time, you can find Pastor Matthew obsessing way too much about the local sports teams and spending time with his wife, Danielle, and their three children. Sarah was born in the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia and grew up attending Calvary United Methodist Church there. She graduated from Shenandoah University in 2018 with a major in Exercise Science and a minor in Faith Seeking Justice: Christian Leadership. Sarah and Mason got married on June 12, 2019. They moved to the County in April 2021 because Mason is stationed at NAS Patuxent River. They had their first child in June 2022. One of her goals is to build relationships with the youth both personally and spiritually. She would also like to support, strengthen, and work with them to help them reach their full potential in the eyes of God.

Candy has been an active member of our church for over 20 years. She felt the nudge from God to begin volunteering with our youth group 14 years ago. She began her more formal role as Youth Director in June 2018. Some of Candy's goals for the youth group: grow in faith, in numbers and in their understanding of God's Word; to guide them to becoming leaders within the group, the church and the community; and to work in our local and world communities doing mission work. 

Tami Joy has been our Preschool Director since the days of Methuselah!

Wade is an active member of Hollywood Church of the Nazarene where, among other things, he is the youth leader and one of the worship leaders. He is also a certified coach with Optavia, the director of the St. Mary’s County Recreation & Parks Summerstock musical theatre program, and serves as the Assistant Artistic Director of the Newtowne Players. Wade holds a BA in Communication Arts from Eastern Nazarene College and a Master of Arts in Christian Education from Nazarene Theological Seminary. Like many members of the HUMC community, Wade is a direct descendant of our church’s co-founder, Miley Jones.
