Pre-K 2 Program
(Must be 2 by September 1 of the current school year.)
These classes been developed to be a child’s first experience away from home. The focus of this age group is on social interaction and verbal communication. Time is spent in exploration of their environment through play and hands-on activities, as well as time for stories, songs, fingerplays and small and large motor development.
Pre-K 3 Program
(Must be 3 by September 1 of the current school year.)
These classes will include time for social interaction; further language development; increased development in small and large motor skills; structured small and large group times; and continued exploration of their environment through hands-on experiences and play.
(Must be 4 by September 1 of the current school year.)
Our Pre-K 4 program provides an opportunity for the child to explore with materials, ideas and personal relationships as a firm foundation for their future in Kindergarten. This is a Pre-Kindergarten readiness program.
Kindergarten/*Transitional Kindergarten Program
(Must be 5 by December 15 of the current school year.)
Our ¾ day program is designed to meet and exceed the expectations of a typical kindergarten program. The small class size allows for more individualized instruction between the student and teacher. Learning to function in a group, yet maintaining their individuality is our goal. Our approach to the “Core” may be little more “hands-on’, but the goals are to meet and exceed the standard. Each child will be encouraged to advance at his/her own pace. Our program is recognized by the MSDE and children that meet the kindergarten age requirement (5th birthday by August 31 of the current school year), complete our program and meet the attendance requirements will be eligible for SMCPS 1st grade in the next school year.
What is Transitional Kindergarten at our school? This is in combination with our Kindergarten Program and is for the child that is ready for a more advanced, structured program (kindergarten work), but will not turn 5 until the fall 2022. SMCPS may not recognize this as K completion. Parents will need to obtain a waiver from SMCPS for this year to be counted as kindergarten. Recommendation from current Pre-K teacher or an interview with our school K teacher will be necessary to make sure this is a good fit for your child.
